All told, how many different Transformers exist in toys, TV, and comics?

I mean ones that have been NAMED and exist through official publication/manufacturing. Differing bodies of the same character would count as one character...All told, how many different Transformers exist in toys, TV, and comics?I don't have an exact number for you, but there are in the hundreds of characters. In the first line of toys that came out 20 years ago (referred to as Generation 1) there were over 300. Some of those were redos of earlier characters, but the majority were for different ones. In a recent issue of ToyFare magazine they had a price guide for all of the Transformers toys released (Gen 1, Gen 2, BeastWars, Machine Wars, the recent movie) and it went on and on for several pages. Sorry I can't give an exact number, but I would have to guess more then 500.
