For anyone thinking it's already against the law, there is NO law prohibiting this.Would you support legislation prohibiting spanking your children on the bottom?I'm torn on this one. On the one hand i think it's terrible that some people would purposely harm an innocent child. On the other hand though, I don't think that it's the role of the government to dictate parenting styles. So while I don't agree with spanking, I would not support this legislation (Plus, I'm sure if the Supreme Court can decide that marriage is a fundamental right, than so is Parenting in your own style, so that law would get tossed out the window).
What I would instead support would be government programs that are free to parents that teach them other discipline methods besides corporal punishment. Many times people use spanking only because they have no knowledge of other ways to parent so I think that educating parents would be a better strategy.

I don't know why you asked this question twice, but I will repeat the answer I previously gave:
First of all the government should just stay out spanking entirely. Abuse and beating yes--spanking no. And bare bottom spanking is the traditional way to spank--it is not abuse. What happened is that this was the first avenue the anti-spankers took to get their nose in the tent to outlaw spanking entirely.
I was usually spanked bare bottom as a kid, and it is the only way I spank as a Mom. The immediate point of a spanking is to give, within reason, a good sting. It is kind of counterproductive to do that over layers of clothing. And depending on what clothing they have on at the time--the spanking might hurt more than at another time--that's not very fair or equitable.
I also think it is safer. It is not necessary to hit as hard to make the point.
Most important, I know from being a kid, that a pants down spanking makes a much bigger impression--it just seems much more serious.
As far as embarrassment--all punishment is inherently embarrassing and humiliating. I do not think that a child baring their rear briefly , in private, to be disciplined by their Mom, who has changed their diapers and bathed them, is UNDULY embarrassing or humiliatingWould you support legislation prohibiting spanking your children on the bottom?And who is going to report if the pants were up or down? If a 3 year old is being spanked right now with their pants down, who will tell? How will the children know its illegal?
We don't need more unenforceable laws. I don't see how it would help much. I hate he-said she-said laws.
I wouldn't personally spank but I don't see a problem with other parents doing it as long as it is one with an open hand. I would support the legislation if it involved pulling down their pants. No, I don't think it should be illegal. It's nobody's business how I discipline my child.

no it should not be illegal but even if it was how is anybody going to prevent it...i mean beating your kids is illegal but parents get away with it everday
