The writers have been thinking that Sam is too 'tied down' in his relationship with Megan's character, and so they gave him a new girlfriend in a new location so they can start a fresh storyline with him.

Megan Fox also did slander Bay in an interview, saying that he was a bad director and was never satisfied, and apparently continuously compromised crew and actor's safety. Did you ever notice alot of times when a movie comes out there might be a buzz that the two stars are dating in real life (like EVERY Jennifer Aniston movie!) Most of the time its not true and its just to increase numbers when the movie comes out. If you remember the studio tried doing that with Transformers 2 with Megan and Shia but meanwhile you would see pix of her and that guy from 90210 that she ended up marrying. She didnt play the hollywood game and they didnt rehire her.
